Purdue continues to monitor swine flu, has emergency plan in place

In response to a serious new flu strain that began in Mexico, Purdue is working closely with local authorities and health care providers to monitor the situation in the community and on campus.

The University's pandemic preparedness committee, created during the avian flu alert in 2006, convened on Monday (April 27) to address the potential threat and continues to keep abreast of updates on the situation.

The University has a detailed plan for responding to such threats, with an emphasis on protecting the health of students, faculty and staff. The University's pandemic plan is available at www.purdue.edu/emergency_preparedness/index.htm.

Purdue updates, health and safety information, and links to government and health organizations are available through a swine flu link on the University home page at www.purdue.edu.

Faculty, staff and students also can sign up for emergency text messages at www.purdue.edu/securepurdue/.
