April 27, 2009 Update: Traffic, parking disruptionsHere are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on the West Lafayette campus.-- Near Mackey Arena, fencing has closed sidewalks along the west side of Northwestern Avenue and the east side of University Street through Nov. 1. Pedestrians will be able to use a walkway just north of the Lambert Fieldhouse to go around. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Mackey_sidewalks.pdf. -- At the Gatewood Wing addition to the Mechanical Engineering Building, additional fencing beginning May 4 will cause major changes in walk and traffic patterns. More details will be shared when available. Currently, the sidewalk at the northwest corner is blocked intermittently as an ADA ramp is being moved. For questions or concerns about the ramp work, contact Doug Edging at dledging@purdue.edu or 49-48091. -- At Stone Hall, the southeast entrance will be closed Wednesday, April 29, so repairs may be made to the steps. For questions, contact Jeff Woolard at 49-63718 or jawoolard@purdue.edu. --Behind Hilltop Building 6 an emergency sewer replacement project planned for Tuesday-Friday will close the project area to thru traffic. The area extends from the east side retaining wall to the west edge of the parking lot. For questions, contact Kurtis Veach at 49-49834 or ktveach@purdue.edu. -- The High Voltage Project upgrade east of Schleman Hall is scheduled for completion May 8. -- Currently, CityBus will not be able to pick up passengers in front of the terminal at the Purdue Airport, due to construction of the Niswonger Aviation Technology Building. Buses will instead use the Student Lot north of the railroad tracks on the east side of Airport Road for dropoff and pickup. This change is allowing crews to remove the pavement just south of the railroad tracks and install new pavement. The back gate will be opened to allow traffic and service to AERO east of NISW. The contractor will install temporary access just west of the existing entrance for emergency vehicles and car access only. This situation is expected to conclude May 6. -- At Purdue Village and along Airport Road, a Telecommunications Relocation Project involves installation of underground conduits. Sidewalks and sections of roadway may be temporarily blocked in various locations at different times. This includes the west side of Airport Road. The project is expected to be complete by the end of June 2009. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Squirrel_Park.pdf. For questions or concerns, contact Don Koning at ddkoning@purdue.edu or 49-43238. -- Along Harrison Street near Martin Jischke Drive, Duke Energy is relocating a section of aerial high voltage power lines. This work is near the construction zones for Hockmeyer Hall of Structural Biology and Discovery Learning Center. However, in addition to Harrison Street, utility work will also take place on State, Grant, and Sheetz Streets. Flag persons and road disruptions may be present throughout this project. Caution is important. Work is expected to be complete by the end of May. For questions or concerns, contact David Musi at dfmusi@purdue.edu or 49-46297. Information is from Physical Facilities reports.
