Employees to receive e-mail request for veteran status self-identification

Changes to the veteran self-identification categories stemming from the passage of the Jobs for Veterans Act have brought about the need for employees to voluntarily self-identify their veteran status.

The Office of Institutional Equity will be gathering new veteran status self-identification information from employees.

Purdue is subject to certain governmental reporting requirements for the administration of civil rights laws and regulations. The area of veteran status self-identification has been changed, and Purdue is required to report employee self-identification in the new veteran categories this summer.

To comply with the new self-identification and reporting regulations in the area of veteran status, all employees will receive an e-mail message early next week inviting them to voluntarily self-identify their veteran status. Employees can review and change their veteran status self-identification by accessing Employee Self Service on the OnePurdue site at www.purdue.edu/onepurdue or by filling out the veteran status page of the Self-Identification Compliance Form available on the Human Resource Services Web site, www.purdue.edu/hr.

The information obtained will be kept confidential and will be used only in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws, executive orders, and regulations, including those that require the information to be summarized and reported to the federal government for civil rights enforcement.

Employees with questions about the e-mail inviting them to self-identify their veteran status may contact the Office of Institutional Equity at 49-47253, TTY (765) 496-1343, or equity@purdue.edu.
