PNC, chancellor and staff honored by LaPorte County United Way
Purdue University North Central, Chancellor James B. Dworkin and several PNC staff members were honored recently by the United Way of LaPorte County.
The United Way of LaPorte County designated PNC as a 2008 Cornerstone Award Organization.
According to Bill Hanna, United Way executive director, "This is the first year that the award was presented. It will be presented annually to the 15 largest contributing organizations in LaPorte County whose combined organization and employee group contributions form a fundamental and indispensable cornerstone of community support through United Way of LaPorte County."
Dworkin also was honored for his volunteer work as a member of the United Way of LaPorte County Campaign Cabinet. The cabinet is composed of community and business leaders who lend their expertise to the annual United Way campaign. Dworkin was responsible for formulating the strategy for leadership giving in LaPorte County.
In addition, Dworkin was recognized for his distinction as an emeritus member of the United Way Board of Directors. He was elected as a director emeritus in 2006 and is one of three emeritus directors.
Also cited by the United Way was Todd Laux, PNC Wellness coordinator, who volunteered as a campaign loaned executive, and Patricia Carlisle, who recently retired as PNC special assistant to the chancellor and equal opportunity/affirmative action officer, who was a member of the allocations committee.
Karen Schmid, PNC vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, recently joined the United Way of LaPorte County Board of Directors, assuming the recently ended term of Karen Cobbs, PNC director of Alumni Affairs. Cobbs had served the board as secretary.
Together, the efforts of all United Way volunteers culminated in the campaign surpassing its fundraising goal. A 2008 campaign goal of $1,102,008 had been set and the campaign raised $1,107,748.
