Survey to assess campus recycling

Physical Facilities and the Purdue University Sustainability Council are co-sponsoring an online survey to assess waste reduction and recycling practices on campus.

The survey will be offered from today (Monday, Feb. 9) through Friday, Feb. 13.

It may be found at:  http://purdue.qualtrics.com/SE?SID=SV_1LJqeIJbr192cfy&SVID=Prod.  It can also be accessed from the Physical Facilities Web page (http://www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/) or the Purdue Sustainability Web page (http://www.purdue.edu/sustainability/).  All Purdue students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate.  Responses are anonymous and the survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

The survey is endorsed by the College of Agriculture, the College of Engineering, and Discovery Park, working in collaboration with the Council for Manager (CMD) Development.  A CMD team is researching ways to improve the effectiveness of Purdue’s 18-year-old recycling program. The goal is to model a campaign that could handle twice as much material without building more cost into the system.

The waste and recycling team will present its findings and recommendations to the University's senior staff at a public presentation in Fowler Memorial House on April 16. Data from the survey will be a key element of the presentation.  Results will also be posted online.

"There's tremendous interest in this issue across all campus demographics," says team leader Bob Morman.  "We're encouraging everyone to take 10 minutes and complete the survey. People have the power today to change tomorrow. And in the end, that’s what recycling is all about -- a little effort making a big difference."
