Purdue NSF center holding workshop on excellence, diversity

Purdue's National Science Foundation ADVANCE: Increasing the Participation and Advancement of Women in Academic Science and Engineering Careers team has organized its first workshop.

The Women in Science & Engineering Leadership Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison group will present "Searching for Excellence and Diversity," a workshop about how to conduct an unbiased faculty or staff search, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. today (Jan. 16) in the East Faculty Lounge of Purdue Memorial Union.

The workshop will provide the latest tips and advice for running efficient and effective searches, recruiting excellent and diverse applicants, and conducting fair and thorough reviews of candidates.

Purdue's National Science Foundation ADVANCE team organized the workshop with financial support from colleges and from Susan Bulkeley Butler, through the Susan Bulkeley Butler Leadership Center.

Purdue has been selected by the NSF to launch a national model program to increase the number and diversity of successful women faculty members in the STEM disciplines. In September, the NSF ADVANCE program awarded Purdue a grant of more than $3.92 million to support research and programming for "institutional transformation" and to create the Purdue Center for Faculty Success.
