The Indianapolis Business Journal has selected Susan Brock Williams, legislative initiative director in Purdue's Office of Governmental Relations, to receive its "Influential Women" award for 2008.

Each year, IBJ recognizes women who have demonstrated professional excellence and leadership in their careers and community service. Recipients are influential in their company or industry; have a solid reputation for experience, integrity and ethical behavior; and have a track record of accomplishment.

"I am truly honored to be recognized by the IBJ with the ‘Influential Women’ award and have great respect for the other honorees this year," Williams said. "It is reassuring to know that my work is having an impact in my community and for Purdue."

Williams is one 19 recipients for 2008. As legislative initiative director at Purdue, Williams represents the University before the Indiana General Assembly. She is involved with expanding dual-credit enrollment for Indiana high school students and is leading a team of Purdue and Indiana University colleagues on the Indiana Innovation Alliance.

Outside her work at Purdue, Williams serves as president of the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, is secretary of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation, volunteers in St. Thomas Aquinas parish, and chairs events for the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
