Books and Coffee invites votes for book selection

Faculty, staff and students can be a part of the 58th Annual Books & Coffee by voting from among four book selections chosen by the Purdue Student English Association (SEA).

In this presidential election year, PSUB and the English department hope for record-setting electronic voting in the campus vote to select the book to be discussed during the fourth week (Feb. 26) in the Books & Coffee 2009 series.

Voting is open Oct. 15-22 to anyone with a Purdue career account and password.  Go to  the "GetInvolved"  Web page, www.getinvolved.purdue.edu. Log in on the right side of the page using your Purdue career account and password. Scroll down to "News Articles," where you can view "Books & Coffee 2009 Voting."

The selections for this year's theme of science fiction and fantasy are:

* Dune by Frank Herbert: (1962) this Hugo and Nebula Award winner tells the sweeping tale of a desert planet caught in an intricate power struggle in a byzantine interstellar empire.

* The Time Traveler's Wife by Audry Niffenegger: (2004) a realistic character study and a touching love story of a reluctant time traveler.

* A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess: (1962) a story of youthful violence and social redemption set in a futuristic dystopia.

* American Gods by Neil Gaiman: (2003) a strange, and hallucinogenic road-trip story wrapped around a deep examination of the American spirit.
