Demonstration to highlight
new videoconferencing system

A demonstration of a new videoconferencing system donated to Purdue by Cisco Systems Inc. will be held Wednesday (Oct. 15).

The TelePresence videoconferencing system uses high-definition video and advanced audio to deliver live, face-to-face communications. Purdue will receive the Cisco TelePresence System 1000, a single-screen system designed for small group meetings or one-on-one meetings.

A brief system overview will be held at 2:15-2:30 p.m. in Room 1142, Lawson Computer Science Building. The ribbon cutting and demonstration will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Room 1198, Lawson.

The system will be available for use by faculty. Details on scheduling time for its use are still pending.

Purdue is one of 12 universities to receive a system.   Other university sites are Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California-Berkeley, University of California-San Diego, Cornell, Johns Hopkins University, University of California-Los Angeles, Georgia Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, University of Washington, and University of North Carolina.

The value of the donation is approximately $650,000, including three years of networking and support costs.

Through an arrangement with similarly equipped Cisco sales offices, Purdue faculty will be able to communicate with colleagues all over the world, saving travel time and expenses.
