Campus phone books: Delivering the new, recycling the old

Purdue telephone directories for 2008-09 are to be distributed to campus buildings this week.

Purdue Recycling crews will collect old directories Saturday, Nov. 1.

Last year, people on campus helped send 45,053 pounds of phone directories to recycling instead of landfills.

For the Nov. 1 pickup, unneeded phone books, boxed or bundled, should be placed on loading docks or next to the outdoor green Purdue Recycling collection carts on Friday, Oct. 31. Covering the books against the weather is helpful.

Local phone directories will be distributed at another time, followed by a campus recycling pickup. In the past several years, local phone books have come in January or February.
