Board hears report on FY 2009 operating budget

The Board of Trustees on Friday received a report on Purdue’s operating budget for fiscal year 2009. Morgan R. Olsen, executive vice president and treasurer, reported that the system-wide Purdue budget is $1.96 billion for 2008-2009.

Of that, $1.67 billion is for the West Lafayette campus, $106.3 million is for Purdue Calumet, $144.9 million for Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, and $39.5 million  for Purdue North Central.

The total budget represents a 6.7 percent increase over fiscal year 2008.

The general fund, which supports instruction, student services and general administration, including operating expenses such as pay and benefits, supplies and expenses, utilities and debt service, is $1.03 billion system-wide.

Pending strategic plan allocations totaled $6.2 million system-wide and represent 9.3 percent of the general fund's new expenditure allocations.

Overall, state operating appropriations increased by $15.4 million, or 4.7 percent from last year.  The West Lafayette campus received a state appropriation increase of 4.8 percent, or $12.1 million, and Purdue Calumet’s state funds rose 4 percent. Funding for the North Central and Fort Wayne campuses increased by 7.5 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively.
