Update: Traffic, parking disruptions

Here are notes on some current and upcoming disruptions on campus.

-- Preparations for demolition of Student Services Annex One (SSA1) will begin today (Sept. 29). This demolition is the first phase of a LEED project, the Mechanical Engineering Roger B. Gatewood Wing. As per LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, materials from the demolition will be separated and recycled to minimize what goes to a landfill. The goal is 75 percent recycled. The demolition is expected to be complete by the end of October.

During the demolition, the handicap accessible ramp into the Mechanical Engineering Building will be maintained; it is on the end of the building nearest Hovde Hall. Also to be maintained is the southwest (front) entrance into the American Railway Building (RAIL). The sidewalk between SSA1 and RAIL will be closed. Map of area fenced for the demolition: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/me_fencing.pdf.

-- Tunnel top sidewalk repairs continue along Horticulture Drive. At present, sidewalks are closed from the access drive to the south side of the Agricultural Administration Building. In addition, half of Marsteller Street (to the east of the Transformation sculpture) remains closed. Traffic flow will be maintained. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/Hort_Drive_tunnel_top.pdf. Reminder: The west portion of Agricultural Mall (from Horticulture Drive west to University Street) is permanently closed. Signs are posted. For questions or concerns, contact Susan Black, assistant manager, Parking Facilities, at seblack2@purdue.edu or 49-49493.

-- A sidewalk in the parking area north of Stewart Center is to close today through Oct. 15 for a chilled water valve replacement project. Map: www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/STEW_sidewalk.pdf.

-- Though all levels of the Wood Street Parking Garage are open, overnight work calls for caution in the evening hours and may leave a few spaces closed during the day.

-- Fencing remains in place along the east and south sides of the North Power Plant due to masonry concerns. Pedestrians can pass by, and parking spaces not in the fenced area are available according to the usual designations for each space.

-- Construction  continues on a new sidewalk in the center of Stadium Mall Drive from Neil Armstrong Hall to Forney Hall of Chemical Engineering (basically in front of Civil Engineering). Contractor equipment will access the area using the sidewalk north of Schleman Hall by its loading dock. The sidewalk and dock will remain open, but caution is important. Completion is expected by late October. A map of the area is at www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/travel/pdf/stadium_mall.pdf.
