OnePurdue announces changes in SAP upgrade schedules

Since SAP’s implementation in February 2007, the OnePurdue teams have been at work behind the scenes to maintain, repair and enhance the system. As the teams prepare to release a number of SAP upgrades in the coming weeks, they want University staff to know that beginning late this month through early December, the weekly schedule of system maintenance will be altered occasionally.

Typically, the teams perform maintenance on SAP applications 6-8 p.m. most Tuesdays; and weekends, 3 p.m. Saturday through 4 a.m. Sunday. During those hours, the SAP system is unavailable.

The first schedule change will occur when the system will shut down from 6 p.m. today (Sept. 26) through 8 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 27). During those hours, the OnePurdue teams will copy the five SAP production systems, which include: Enterprise Core Components (formerly SAP R3), Supplier Relationship Management, Business Warehouse, SAP Portal and interfaces. The copies are necessary for upgrading the system with the latest “service stacks,” or system corrections, provided by SAP to keep all its software running in sync.

From Oct. 6 to 17, the teams will perform no other system maintenance, except for extreme emergencies. However, the SAP system will still be fully operational, and they believe no one should experience disruption in service.

Employees also should be aware that from Nov. 12 through Dec. 8, the teams will forego their Tuesday evening maintenance on the SAP system, while they validate the SAP service stacks. The HR, Financial, Supply Chain and Business Warehouse systems will remain operational until 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, when the OnePurdue teams shut them down to perform a systemwide upgrade. All should be restored by 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8.

Current system upgrade schedules can be found online on the OnePurdue home page at www.purdue.edu/onepurdue/ and SAP Portal. Unscheduled system outages are also posted online at www.itap.purdue.edu/infrastructure/operations/change/calendar.cfm?type=unscheduled.
