Engineer of 2020 Workshop to be held Sept. 30

Leadership, global issues, and ethics will be the focus of the 2008 Engineer of 2020 Workshop on Sept. 30.

The annual workshop addresses attributes that are considered critical to the success of Purdue engineering graduates in the future, specifically the year 2020.

Six panelists will share their expertise on this year's targeted attributes:

-- Jorge Ochoa, vice president of R&D, Archus Orthopedics.

-- Gary Downey, professor of science and technology in society, Virginia Tech.

-- John Grandin, professor of German and executive director and founder of the University of Rhode Island's International Engineering Program.

-- Gary Comstock, professor of philosophy, North Carolina State University.

-- Joe Herkert, the Lincoln Associate Professor of Ethics and Technology, Arizona State University.

-- Richard Schuhmann, director of the Engineering Leadership Program, Penn State University.

The morning session will feature a panel discussion from 8 to 11:45 a.m. in the North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union.

A poster session and lunch will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Prusiecki Banquet Room, Dauch Alumni Center. Space for the luncheon is limited. Participants should reserve a spot through Special Events at events@purdue.edu or 49-40900 by Sept. 26. (No reservations are required to attend the workshop in the morning or afternoon sessions.)

Breakout sessions and a workshop summary will be offered from 1:45 to 4 p.m. at Dauch.
