Thursday power outages to affect south side of campus

Two temporary electrical outages are scheduled for Thursday (Sept. 18) on the south side of campus.

These shutdowns will allow addition of gear to the south campus substation. Then the contractor will complete the second phase of the overhead electrical line relocation project.

An announcement from Physical Facilities explains that this step needs to occur in a limited window of time.

The schedule:

First, from 9 a.m. to about 9:45 a.m., feeders 31 and 35 will be shut down,  affecting the Bus Shuttle lot; Niswonger Aviation Technology Building; Aerospace Science Lab and simulation building; Child Development and Family Studies Building; Purdue Village preschool; Squirrel Park; Patty Jischke Early Education and Care Center; Purdue Village Community Center; Purdue Village Administration Building and shop; and Purdue Village units 118-119, 131-138, 147-151, 210-216, 1231, 1233, 1235, 1237, and 1301-1397.

The first shutdown also will include Terry House, which houses the Purdue Police Department, but the building has a backup generator and operations will not be affected.

Second, from 10:15 a.m. to about 11:45 a.m., feeders 30 and 37 will be shut down,  affecting the Transportation Maintenance Building (fuel pumps and car wash will be inoperable); sewage lift station; and Purdue Village units 139-146, 217-228.

The second shutdown also will include Purdue Airport including the terminal, runway and taxi lights, hangars and other facilities. Back-up generators will be used so that essential operations are unaffected.
