-- Agricultural Research Programs Seminar. Speaker: Jody Banks, professor of botany and plant physiology. Topic: The inside scoop on the NSF review process: Things you should know when writing an NSF proposal. Noon. Room 116, WSLR.

-- Graduate Student Educational Research Symposium. 1-6:15 p.m. Purdue Memorial Union, North Ballroom.  Keynote at 1 p.m. by Donna Gollnick, senior vice president of National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

-- Difficult Dialogues. Monthly presentation of research about race and society. Film "Shattering the Silence" with discussion; moderator, Heidi Freeman, graduate student. Black Cultural Center and American Studies Program. 2-4 p.m. BCC. First Wednesday of each month.

-- Harriet A. Jacobs Lecture Series. Kwakiutl L. Dreher, Univ. of Nebraska and a performance artist; presentation is based on her new book "Dancing on the White Page: Black Women Entertainers Writing Autobiography." African American Studies and Research Center; final event for 2008 Project Respect. 3 p.m. Room 101, Armory.

-- BCC Coffee House Showcase. Performing arts ensembles of the Black Cultural Center: music, drama, writing, dance. 7 p.m. BCC. Also Thursday.

-- Ken Rinaldo: Robotic Installations. Stewart Center Gallery will exhibit "Autotelematic Spider Bots" with real-time interaction with public and self-modified behavior. The Spider Bots will function for 15-minute periods at 10:30 a.m. and at 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. daily. Robert L. Ringel Gallery will present the installation work "Machinic Drift," a series of 3-D images.
