Study Abroad applications due March 1; Expect requests for recommendations

March 1 is the deadline for students to apply for the majority of the University’s summer, fall or academic year programs abroad.  A list of options and application procedures is available at www.studyabroad.purdue.edu.

Brian Harley, assistant dean of International Programs and director of the Office of Programs for Study Abroad, encourages faculty and staff to expect increased requests for advice and recommendations in the coming days.

"We expect about 1,000 students to apply by March 1," he said.

Harley pointed out that since last summer, there has been a new requirement for students wishing to apply for study abroad.  Students must show the Study Abroad Office proof that they have a passport, or that they have applied for one, at the time they apply to go abroad.  In the past, students could wait until learning of their acceptance before applying for a passport, but this is no longer possible.

Purdue's Office of Programs for Study Abroad has more than 250 programs in 50 countries. More than 1,300 Purdue students study abroad each year.

Students can learn more by contacting the office at 765-494-2383 or by visiting www.studyabroad.purdue.edu.
