Institute to offer course in Chinese culture

A  non-credit course in Chinese culture will be offered this spring through the Confucius Institute at Purdue (CIP) and Purdue Continuing Education. The course is open to all who are interested.

A Glimpse of China will cover selected topics on the Chinese civilization, on geographic, historical, and aesthetic components of Chinese culture, and on the contemporary life of the Chinese people. Course topics will include history and geography; Chinese language and calligraphy; Confucianism; Chinese arts; and current social, political, cultural, and economic issues of China.

Lectures will be in English and course materials will be provided. Enrollment is limited to 15 participants. Classes will be held on Wednesdays, March 19 - April 16, from 7 to 9 p.m., in Stanley Coulter Hall, Room 114. Cost for the course is $95.

The Confucius Institute at Purdue is collaboration among the colleges of Liberal Arts and Engineering and the Krannert School of Management, as well as the Shanghai Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China. There are 140 Confucius Institutes worldwide, sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International, intended to develop relationships and understanding between countries.
