Northwestern/Stadium corner to have right-turn restriction
The Indiana Department of Transportation soon will restrict traffic heading eastbound on Stadium Avenue from turning right on red onto southbound Northwestern Avenue.
The change is expected to go into effect in the next few days, says Purdue Police Capt. John Cox.
The restriction is being made to address pedestrian concerns about the intersection, which began to see an increase in foot traffic following the opening in October of Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering.
"The intersection has always seen a lot of activity, but the completion of Neil Armstrong Hall brought this to a higher level," Cox says. "INDOT was contacted to see what could be done to make the area safer."
Cox says Purdue police will monitor the intersection to ensure compliance.
