Events this week at Purdue

Here is a list of events happening this week at the West Lafayette campus.

Monday through Friday

-- Exhibition: "Lewis & Clark and the Indian Country: Two Hundred Years of American History." Traveling exhibition examines Lewis and Clark's expedition to the Pacific Ocean and back, its encounter with more than 50 native tribes along the way, and the long-term effects of that encounter on the Indian country and United States history. Hicks Undergraduate Library. The library is open 24 hours Monday through Friday.

Monday, Dec. 10

-- Representatives from three of the strategic plan working groups will listen to input from members of the campus and Greater Lafayette communities at an open forum. The three Òtigers teamsÓ participating are Student Success and the Student Experience, Attracting Students to Careers in the STEM Disciplines, and Synergies Between Science/Engineering and Liberal Arts. 3:30 to 5 p.m. Room 218-D, Stewart Center.

-- R. Edwin Garcia, assistant professor in materials engineering, will speak on "Introduction to the Object Oriented Finite Element Modeling of Material Microstructures." 2:30 p.m. Room 234, Potter Engineering Center.

-- Matt Painter Radio Show. 6 p.m. Cary Knight Spot Grill.

Tuesday, Dec. 11

-- Information about the Patty Jischke Early Care and Education Center will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 118, Purdue Memorial Union. Two formal presentations will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The presentations will last 30 to 45 minutes. Information will be provided about the physical environment and the curriculum. Representatives from Purdue and Children's Choice Learning Centers, the company selected to manage the facility, will be available to answer questions.

Friday, Dec. 14

-- Regenstrief Center Brownbag Speaker Series. Speaker: Chris King. Topic: NIH proposal writing. 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Room 203, Mann Hall.

Saturday, Dec. 15

-- Men's basketball vs. Louisville (Wooden Tradition). 3:30 p.m. Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis. Second game is Butler vs. Florida State about 6 p.m. Game times are subject to change. Dec. 12-13

-- Wellness screenings will be available for those planning to participate in Healthy Purdue 2008. The screenings will be offered by Healthy PurdueÕs third-party vendor, StayWell Health Management. Screening appointments are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday. Room 218, Stewart Center. Participants are encouraged to register at least 24 hours in advance of their appointment, and they must bring their Purdue ID at the time of the screening. Register at www.purdue.edu/worklife.
