When science meets art
Purdue University sculpture Professor Rick Paul creates three-dimensional works of art that exist only in his computer. Paul started his college career as a chemistry major at the University of Florida in the mid-'60s, and he maintained his interest in science even after switching his major to fine arts. He created "Riding the Gordian Knot" by using math software to create a 3-D knot. He then added hundreds of chairs to the surface of the knot using special software he created. Paul also has developed software that enables him to build objects directly from his computer models. (Copyrighted image provided by Rick Paul)
