Trustees' Executive Committee acts on contracts, b'ball tickets

The 125,000-square-foot Food Science Building will house laboratories, classrooms and offices for the Department of Food Science in the School of Agriculture.

The building, scheduled for completion in summer 1998, will be three stories with a basement and will be built on open ground on the Agricultural Mall between the Horticulture Building and the Agriculture and Biological Engineering Building. In addition to 80 offices, the building will contain five classrooms and teaching laboratories and 38 research laboratories.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the building were July 3.

Awarded the general contract was Kettelhut Construction Inc., Lafayette , in the amount of $5.7 million. The masonry construction contract went to Don Scharer Masonry Inc., West Lafayette , in the amount of $1.8 million. Central Indiana Glass and Glazing Inc., Lafayette , was awarded the glass and glazing construction contract totaling $276,600. The roofing, siding and roof accessories construction contract went to W.R. Kelso Co. Inc., Indianapolis , for $219,570. Harry J. Kloeppel & Associates, Glenview, Ill. , will do casework construction with a contract totaling $1.3 million.

The elevator construction contract went to Dover Elevator Co., Memphis, Tenn. , in the amount of $166,400. The PIPCO Companies Ltd., Lafayette , was awarded the mechanical construction contract totaling $5.4 million. The fire protection construction contract was awarded to Firematic Sprinkler Co. Inc., Lawrenceburg , for $162,705. International Test and Balance Inc., Glenview, Ill. , will do mechanical testing and balancing work with a contract totaling $23,500. The electrical construction contract, in the amount of $2.9 million, went to Long Electric Co. Inc., Indianapolis .

The bid for construction of walk-in coolers and environmental rooms was rejected.

Frederick R. Ford, Purdue executive vice president and treasurer, said the total contract amount, $18.1 million, will be incorporated into a range of related project expenses, including architect fees, landscaping, computer equipment, and cold rooms, freezers and environmental rooms, for a total project budget of $21.2 million. Funds for the project come from bonding authority granted by the Indiana General Assembly in 1995.

Prices for lower-level seats in Mackey Arena last were raised in 1994; other prices haven't changed since 1992.

Kenneth P. Burns, vice president for business services and assistant treasurer, said the increases bring Purdue's average basketball ticket price to $15.66.

The 1996-97 men's basketball ticket prices are:

• Single-game tickets for lower-arena seats will be $19, up from $16. Upper-arena single-game tickets will be $14, a $2 increase.

• Lower-arena season tickets for the general public will increase from $240 to $285. Upper-arena season tickets for the general public will increase from $180 to $210.

• Staff season tickets for lower-arena seats will increase from $192 to $228. Upper-arena staff season tickets will increase from $144 to $168.

• Student season tickets will increase from $66 to $77 for both the lower and upper arenas. The student price is based on 11 home games at 50 percent of the single game price and will be prorated if the number of home games changes. Vacation-period tickets can be purchased by students and student spouses at half price with a coupon.

• Student spouse season tickets, based on 11 games, will increase from $106 to $123 for both lower- and upper-arena seats.

  Season-ticket prices are based on a 15-game home schedule and will be prorated if the number of home games changes.
