September 2003 Karen and B.J. Palmore
B.J. and Karen Palmore both provide institutional consulting advice for USB Financial Services in Grand Rapids, Mich. They both joined PaineWebber in 1990. PaineWebber was acquired by UBS in November 2000 and now employs approximately 9,000 financial consultants in the United States. B.J. Palmore is a senior vice president and senior institutional consultant. He heads up one of 48 consulting teams at UBS that provide institutional investment management advice to corporations, foundations and individual clients throughout the United States. Karen Palmore is a vice president at UBS and is a member of the Palmore Consulting Group. Prior to working at USB, B.J. Palmore spent 11 years in sales and marketing with Ralston Purina, Chow Division, in St. Louis, Mo., and 12 years as the owner of his own pet food and livestock feed company. He sold the company in 1987 and joined the financial services industry as a registered investment consultant with Merrill Lynch. Three years later he moved to PaineWebber/USB Financial Services in Grand Rapids, Mich. A native of Clinton County, Ind., B.J. Palmore graduated from Purdue in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in animal science. Karen Palmore is a native of Grand Rapids. She graduated from Aquinas College with a bachelor's degree in economics and business. She now serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Aquinas College. The Palmores, who live in Grand Rapids, have four children and eight grandchildren. Their current $10 million gift is the latest in a history of support to the university.
