Chavers Named Director of Planned Giving

West Lafayette, Ind. – A Purdue graduate and West Lebanon native, Gordon D. Chavers, has been named director of planned giving in the Purdue University Development Office, Leonard W. Bucklin, vice-president for development, has announced.

Chavers, 30, will direct programs to encourage alumni and friends of the university to provide bequests and deferred gifts to increase the university's total financial resources.

An attorney, Chavers is a 1967 graduate of the Purdue School of Industrial Management, and a 1970 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law where he was awarded the J.D. degree. Chavers, admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1971, is a graduate of the Tax Executives Institute at William and Mary College.

Chavers comes to Purdue from Procter & Gamble Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was a staff attorney in federal income tax compliance, filing of corporation income tax and private foundation returns, and research and analysis of related problems.

Bucklin said Chavers' appointment "reflects our continued effort to strengthen and bolster the very important deferred gifts phase of our over-all development program."

Chavers is married to the former Susan Oren of Muncie, a 1967 graduate of the Purdue School of Humanities' Social Science, and Education. They have one daughter, Courtney. The family plans to move to Lafayette from Cincinnati soon.
