More than 940 swimmers will compete at the meet, which is split up into six sessions. Daily preliminaries will start at 9:30 a.m., and finals will begin at 6 p.m. Phelps, who won six gold and two bronze medals at the 2004 Olympics, and Krayzelburg, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, will help lead the field of men. World recordholders Aaron Peirson, Ian Crocker and Cullen Jones also will compete. On the female side, Olympian Hoff, the American recordholder in the 200-meter individual medley relay, is slated to compete. Olympians Amanda Weir and Kaitlin Sandeno also will be among the competitors. The U.S. Open is one of three domestic meets that USA Swimming sanctions each year. The swimmers will compete at the 50-meter, or Olympic, distance.
