Purdue seeks student, staff input on campus master plan

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University students, staff and faculty will be able to contribute to an updating of the university's master plan at planning sessions to be held Nov. 27-28.

The university has hired Sasaki Associates, of Watertown, Mass., and Scholer Corp., of Lafayette, Ind., to update the plan. The consultants are seeking input that will help the university:

Make the campus more pedestrian-friendly;

Accommodate parking needs;

Encourage increased accessibility for the handicapped;

Further improve campus landscaping;

Anticipate and plan for campus growth and development; and

Engage in design practices that will endure for generations.

The student session is 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 27) in the Purdue Memorial Union, Room 84C, on the ground floor across from the Oasis. The staff and faculty session is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 28) in Stewart Center, Room 314. Seating is limited for each session.

"We're working with professional planners," said John Collier, director of campus planning. "But if we're going to get this right for the long haul, we need the input of the people who use this campus for all of its purposes."

Purdue will schedule several more public input sessions over the course of the 12- to 15-month planning project.
