WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — One of the year's top breakout artists The Fray will appear at Purdue's Elliott Hall of Music at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 11.

Purdue's Student Concert Committee is sponsoring the show.

It's been a whirlwind couple of years for The Fray, the Denver-based quartet whose songs have been striking a chord with audiences. Formed in 2002 by Isaac Slade (vocals, piano) and Joe King (guitar, vocals), The Fray has said it owes all of its early success to the band's organic, grassroots beginnings. They began their career with area gigs that led to enthusiastic local press and radio support, which eventually led to the band's signing with Epic Records in 2004.

"Over My Head (Cable Car)," the first single from the album "How To Save A Life" (2006), climbed into the top 10 on the "Billboard" singles chart, has been certified Platinum, and was streamed more than a million times on the Internet networking site MySpace.com in just one month. "How To Save A Life" has also been on the top 10 list of most downloaded albums on the iTunes music Web site for six months straight, a feat not accomplished by many other acts, said Kerry Schutt Nason, director of marketing for Purdue Convocations.

The Fray also is one of the most licensed bands of 2006, with the band's music featured on the television shows "Scrubs," "Grey's Anatomy," "What About Brian," "NCIS," "One Tree Hill" and "Bones," as well as in HBO's promotional spots this summer.

The band Mute Math, which counts DJ Shadow, Bjork and Police-era Sting as influences, will be the opening act for this performance.

All tickets are $27.50; the price includes a facilities fee.

Tickets go on sale to Purdue and Ivy Tech Lafayette students, and Purdue faculty and staff with a current ID at 10 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Elliott Hall of Music and Stewart Center box offices at (765) 494-3933. Tickets for the general public will go on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at Ticketmaster at (765) 743-5151 and all Ticketmaster outlets.
