Ethics speaker to talk about faith, politicsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A political and social ethics scholar will speak at Purdue University on Nov. 9 about faith-based political engagement.
Jean Bethke Elshtain, the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics at the University of Chicago, will speak at 8 p.m. in Beering Hall, Room 2280. Her talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Aquinas Educational Foundation in West Lafayette, Purdue's Department of Political Science and the College of Liberal Arts' programs in American studies, religious studies and women's studies.
Elshtain's books include "Just War Against Terror: The Burden of American Power in a Violent World," "Jane Addams and the Dream of American Democracy," "Who are We? Critical Reflections and Hopeful Possibilities, Politics and Ethical Discourse," "The King is Dead," and "Political Mothers." She also is co-author of "But Was It Just? Reflections on the Morality of the Persian Gulf War." She also writes a regular column for The New Republic.
