Student groups to collect donations for St. Jude Children's Hospital

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Members of the Purdue Association of Leaders and the Purdue Intercollegiate Polo Club will be collecting donations for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 30-31).

Students will be accepting donations and pledges for the Saddle-Up for St. Jude trail ride at the tables in Stewart Center in front of the Humanities, Social Science and Education Libraries from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.

The Saddle Up for St. Jude is a 10-mile trail ride in which riders obtain sponsors for each mile they ride. All proceeds are donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Purdue Polo Club members will be participating in the trail ride, which will take place on Nov. 4 at Tippecanoe River State Park in Winamac, Ind.

"Our goal in raising money during this event is to help the children of the world who are stricken with diseases like cancer, AIDS and sickle cell disease," said Nick Keller, a senior in the College of Technology from Charleston, W.Va., and president of the Purdue Association of Leaders. "St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a world leader in the fight against these diseases, and it has made great progress because of people who participate in and donate to events like this."

The Purdue Association of Leaders is a student organization with a mission to develop the leadership abilities of its members through social, professional and academic means. The Purdue Polo Club is an intercollegiate sports group that also participates in community service activities.
