Students complete summer research fellowship projects at Purdue

The annual two-month program allows students to work directly with Purdue faculty researchers and graduate students. Students are introduced to the possibilities of graduate education, research careers and interdisciplinary research in engineering, science and technology.

This year a total of 176 students came from academic institutions across the country, including students from six historically black colleges and universities. Thirty-two international students came from India, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Canada and Austria. In addition, five students from West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School and Harrison High School participated in the program.

This year's research projects included developing miniature refrigeration systems to cool computer components; creating algorithms, or sets of mathematical formulas, for autonomous flight; designing a digital camera with increased resolution that uses multi-spectral imaging technology; and researching combustion-based methods of hydrogen development for portable fuel cells.

All students in the program receive a $1,000 per month stipend and attend weekly professional development and research methodology seminars in addition to their research activities.
