Tri-state workshop provides information for woodland ownersWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University will once again join Ohio State and Michigan State universities to co-sponsor the annual Tri-State Woodland and Wildlife Workshop. The workshop, at the Quincy Schools Complex in Quincy, Mich., will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 28. It is open to the public, and forestland owners are encouraged to attend. "This workshop is an effort by three county Extension areas that brings together expertise from all three universities and provides it to woodland owners," said Purdue Extension specialist Brian MacGowan. "It is a one-stop shop for information on forestland and wildlife management. The Tri-State is a once-a-year opportunity for area woodland owners to gain this type of expert advice in person." Throughout the day, experts from each university will speak about a variety of topics, including some geared especially toward new woodland owners. Some of those sessions include woodlands for the future, woodland stewardship and planning, wildlife identification, dealing with invasive plants, and income tax strategies. The workshop kicks off with a program on ways to transfer woodland ownership between generations. In addition, a notebook of woodland management information from all three states will be available for $15. The information also is available on CD for $5. Registration is $25 per person, and lunch will be served to those who preregister. Registration forms are available online. The Quincy Schools Complex is located approximately seven miles east of I-69 off of U.S. 12.
