Humphrey
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's School of Veterinary Medicine honored two alumni on Thursday (Sept. 21) during the school's annual Fall Conference for Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians at the University Inn, 3001 Northwestern Ave.

Distinguished alumni for 2006 are William Humphrey of Kokomo, Ind., a member of the class of 1965, and Philip Roudebush of Topeka, Kan., a member of the class of 1975.

Humphrey, who had a private veterinary practice until his retirement in January, was honored for distinguished service to veterinary practice, his community and organized veterinary medicine.

Roudebush
Roudebush, associated director for scientific affairs at Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. and an adjunct professor with the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, was honored for excellence in teaching, organized veterinary medicine, research and community service. He was cited for his inspiring and innovative teaching to veterinary students, residents, practitioners and veterinary business colleagues worldwide.

Humphrey has served on many committees for the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association, including president in 2000. In 2006 he was elected to represent Indiana as the alternate delegate to the American Veterinarian Medical Association.

He has been active in the community, serving in his church and local charitable and sports organizations while also running the 27-hole Chippendale Golf Club that he founded and developed.

Roudebush joined Hill's as a veterinary fellow in 1999 after a decade as chair of the clinical sciences department at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and worked at the Aspenwood Animal Hospital in Denver after graduation.

Since the establishment of the School of Veterinary Medicine's Distinguished Alumni Award program in 1978, 42 alumni have been honored.

Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine, which opened in 1959, is the only veterinary school in Indiana and one of only 28 in the country. In addition to the doctor of veterinary medicine degree, the school offers an associate degree and a bachelor's degree in veterinary technology, postgraduate internships and residencies for DVMs seeking specialty training, and graduate degrees in the departments of basic medical sciences, pathobiology and clinical sciences. Home to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, the school serves as a major referral center for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of all species of companion and food animals, as well as exotic pets and wildlife. The school has a faculty of 95, including specialists who are board certified in their areas of expertise.
