Purdue celebrates College Colors Day 2006 and Boilermaker FridaysWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University has announced a new weekly event to promote Boilermaker spirit by letting fans show their true colors.
"This is a great opportunity for those associated with the university to show their Boilermaker pride and support our intercollegiate athletic teams," said David Wilson, assistant director for trademark licensing at Purdue. "We invite businesses and alumni to participate, as well." Boilermaker Black & Gold Fridays is an expansion of the national College Colors Day 2006, sponsored by the Collegiate Licensing Company. The one-day national event, set for Sept. 1, encourages all fans, students and alumni throughout the United States to show their school spirit by wearing their collegiate colors. The second annual College Colors Day is an effort to promote higher education through public awareness and to celebrate the achievements of colleges and universities. It coincides with both the return of students to campus and the kickoff of intercollegiate athletics. "The national event was popular last year. Every Collegiate Licensing Company member institution participated, as did more than 400 businesses," Wilson said. "We are striving for that kind of success at Purdue by asking fans and businesses across the nation to show their Purdue spirit every week, rather than just once a year." The licensing company also has teamed up with numerous retail stores across the country to promote the College Colors Day celebration. A complete list of participating retailers and partner businesses is available on the Web. A ready-made College Colors Day promotional flyer and a downloadable logo also are available on the Web site.
