Jody Pierce, Purdue College of Technology assistant location director for the Anderson/Muncie region, said the university decided to join the parade for the first time because it was looking for a way to become more visible to the Anderson community.

"During the last several years, Anderson and the surrounding area have been going through an economic redevelopment phase as the community redefining itself from an industrial hub to a hub for technologies of the future," she said.

"We thought having a presence in the parade would let everyone know we are here and we are poised to assist the city's business and industry with their transformation efforts. And we thought there was no better way to represent Purdue than through its official mascot, the Boilermaker Special."

The parade, which will take place beginning at 12:01 a.m. on July 4, will be held in downtown Anderson. During the parade, faculty and staff from Purdue's College of Technology site in Anderson will ride the train and hand out information about Purdue and specifically its College of Technology programs offered in Anderson.

Degree programs at the Anderson site include associate's degrees in computer graphics technology, computer technology, electrical and computer engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, and associate's and bachelor's degree programs in industrial technology and organizational leadership and supervision.

The College of Technology, established in 1965, is one of the nation's largest and was one of the first of its kind in the country. In addition to West Lafayette and the Anderson/Muncie area, it has locations in Columbus/Greensburg, Indianapolis, Kokomo, New Albany, Richmond and South Bend/Elkhart.
