Kokomo technology students to receive record amount in scholarships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University's College of Technology will award scholarships for 15 students to study at its Kokomo location next year.

The college will recognize the honorees — who will receive a total of $55,000 in scholarship money — during a banquet at 7 p.m. on May 23 in the Kelly Center on Indiana University's Kokomo campus. The Purdue Kokomo 400 Club, a group that supports the university's local programs, is sponsoring the event.

"Some of the top students at Purdue are enrolled in the College of Technology in Kokomo, and these 20 students represent the top in the next generation of technology leaders," said Thomas K. Capozzoli, location director and a professor of organizational leadership and supervision. "That we are able to provide more funds for more students than ever speaks volumes to the commitment of the people of Kokomo to the community's economic future."

The event's keynote speaker will be Nancy Cross, Purdue's senior athletic director for women's sports, who oversees all women's athletic programs at Purdue including the nationally ranked basketball, volleyball and golf programs.

The student honorees include:

• Andrew G. Alexander, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club.

• Paula Blunt, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club.

• Dannie J. Butcher, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club.

• Adam D. Culp, who will receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club.

• Cory L. Denton, who will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Security Federal Savings Bank.

• Erin M. Eliker, who will receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club.

• Michael R. Entringer, who will receive $1,500 scholarship from John and Hilda Hingst.

• CJ Gilsinger, who will receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club.

• Chase G. Glassburn, who will receive a $5,000 scholarship from Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Delphi Delco Electronic Systems.

• Joseph W. Griffin, who will receive a $3,000 scholarship from John and Hilda Hingst.

• Lisa A. Hurley, who will receive a $5,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Thomas and Rosemary Sheehan.

• Jody M. Hutcheson, who will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Marnie Cole Renard.

• Justus A. Leininger, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club.

• Alex D. Lorenz, who will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Brian Clemens.

• Christopher J. Percival, who will receive a $2,500 scholarship from Gala.

• Frank M. Stedry, who will receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and First National Bank.

• James F. Sunday, who will receive a $5,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Glen and Jeanne Harland.

• Billy J. Wallen, who will receive a $5,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Richard H. and Marian E. Blacklidge.

• Ricky W. Weir, who will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and John Milner Memorial.

• Stacy L. Wilson, who will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the Purdue Kokomo 400 Club and Monroe Custom Homes.

Through its Kokomo location, the College of Technology offers associate's degrees in computer graphics technology, computer and information systems technology, electrical and computer engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology and organizational leadership and supervision. Bachelor's degrees are offered in electrical and computer engineering technology, computer and information systems technology and organizational leadership and supervision.

Purdue began offering degrees in Kokomo in 1967, and today students can take classes toward the degrees in Kokomo, Lafayette, Crawfordsville and Logansport.
