Purdue honors Merrillville native with two scholarshipsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University Libraries awarded Janice Hallenbeck of Merrillville two scholarships in recognition of her service and academic success.Hallenbeck, a senior pursuing a doctoral degree in pharmacy, received the $2,500 Dorothy Newby McCaw Scholarship. She was also one of two students to receive a $250 Purdue University Libraries' Student Employee award, also known as the PULSE award. Hallenbeck has worked for the Libraries business office for the past four years. Her supervisors commended her professionalism, trustworthiness and dedication as assets for the department. "My experiences and skills gained through working in the Libraries business office will help me to excel as a pharmacist in the future," Hallenback said. Hallenbeck is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Phi Eta Sigma honor society and the Purdue Student Society of Health System Pharmacists. She also serves as the committee leader for the Leukemia Research Foundation Diane Gaydos Memorial Chapter and as a peer mentor for the Purdue School of Pharmacy. The Dorothy Newby McCaw Scholarship was established this year by a gift from a donor to recognize and retain dedicated, well-rounded student workers. The PULSE awards were created by the circulation reserve team to recognize student workers for their contributions to Purdue Libraries.
Four Purdue students selected for Orr FellowshipsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Four Purdue University seniors were selected to participate in the Gov. Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship, which places college graduates with Indiana companies for two years.Purdue's 2006 Orr fellows are: Tyler Bell, North Webster, Ind., a senior in the Krannert School of Management, who accepted a position with Langham. Bill Conway, Carmel, Ind., a senior in the Krannert School of Management, who accepted a position with Brightpoint Inc. Emily Hambidge, Newburgh, Ind., a senior in the College of Liberal Arts, who accepted a position with Theron Inc. Peter Lazarz, Indianapolis, a senior in the Krannert School of Management, who accepted a position with Angie's List.
