St. Lawrence String Quartet to perform at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The St. Lawrence String Quartet will perform at Purdue University later this month.

The group of musicians — including Geoff Nuttall and Barry Shiffman on the violin, Lesley Robertson on the viola and Christopher Costanza on the cello — will take the Loeb Playhouse stage at 3 p.m. March 26. The program, sponsored by Purdue Convocations, will include pieces by Franz Josef Haydn, R. Murray Schafer and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Formed in 1989, the quartet has performed more than 1,600 times in locations including North America, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. In 1992, the group won both the Banff and Young Concert Artists' competitions. The quartet has held the post of ensemble-in-residence at Stanford University since 1998.

The St. Lawrence String Quartet's recordings have won numerous awards, including a Juno, a Grammy nomination and the German critics' award, the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

Tickets range from $16 to $26 and are available at campus box offices or by phone at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW. Tickets also are available at all Ticketmaster locations.
