Bowl-A-Thon to aid Purdue's CHAPS horseback-riding program

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Area bowlers will have a chance to help out CHAPS, Purdue's therapeutic horseback riding organization, at the third annual Bowl-A-Thon on March 26.

The group hopes to register 30 teams of four at the event to be held between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Arrowhead Lanes, 2331 Brothers Drive, Lafayette. Each team will make a commitment to raise a minimum of $200 in sponsorships or by personal team member donations.

"Each donation helps us reach more children with special needs," said Colleen Brady, Purdue Extension specialist in Youth Development and Agriculture Education. "There will be prizes for the team that raises the most total sponsorships and the team with the highest combined score."

The Bowl-A-Thon is open to all age groups, with bumper bowling and 6-pound balls available for smaller bowlers. Good bowlers and inexperienced bowlers will have opportunities to win special prizes. Registration fees include soft drinks, snacks and rental shoes.

CHAPS is a nationally accredited organization that lets students ride horses to gain coordination, balance, muscle control and confidence. It involves a multidisciplinary team from Purdue that includes the College of Agriculture and the School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as volunteer professionals from the community.

For registration packets, interested teams can contact Brady at (765) 494-8433 or bradyc@purdue.edu, or Linda Hines, (765) 494-8433, hinesls@purdue.edu.
