Open mic night to give performers a chance to shineWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Aspiring performers will get a chance to show off their talents at an open mic night next week at Purdue University.Sponsored by Purdue Student Union Board, Amateuration Open Mic Night will be held from 8-11 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 22) on the ground floor of Purdue Memorial Union across from Freshens. The event is free and open to the public, either to perform or sit in the audience. "Amateuration Open Mic Night is an ongoing event we've been holding for the last four or five years," said Ben Smith, director of concerts for Purdue Student Union Board. "We first started having open mic night once a month, but due to its popularity, we've started offering it twice a month, with more performers and audience members each time." Participants have 15 minutes to show off their talent. It could be anything including singing, comedy or a musical instrument, Smith said. Anyone interested in performing is asked to arrive early and sign up for a time slot.
