January 5, 2006 Purdue student to receive Boy Scout 'Young American Award'WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Kenton Morrell, a Purdue University sophomore from Indianapolis, will receive "The Young American Award" from the local council of the Boy Scouts of America this month. Morrell, a chemical engineering major and Eagle Scout, will be presented the award at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis by the council during its annual meeting on Jan. 21. Representatives from the Crossroads of America Council selected Morrell as its best applicant and have forwarded his nomination to the national level, where the winner will receive a ribbon medallion and a cash prize of $5,000. The award, first presented in 1968, highlights the achievements of students between the ages of 15 and 25 who maintain high grades and are involved in service that enriches the quality of life in their community, state or country. The Crossroads of America Council is comprised of 47,346 registered youth and adult members in a 25-county area in central Indiana.
