January 4, 2006 Professors, public to speak at forum about war in IraqWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Four Purdue University professors will speak about the causes and consequences of the war in Iraq from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 19 in Stewart Center, Room 206. The forum, which is free and open to the public, will feature Janet Afary, associate professor of history and women's studies and an expert in the Middle East; George Horwich, professor emeritus of economics and an expert in international economics; Keith Shimko, associate professor of political science and an expert in foreign policy; and Harry Targ, professor of political science and American Studies and an expert in international relations. "Legislators in Washington are in fierce debate about bringing home troops while public support declines and President George Bush continues to make the war on Iraq the centerpiece of his war on terrorism," says Bill Mullen, professor of English and director of American Studies. "The panelists will discuss and debate these issues, and the audience also will be invited to participate in the discussion." WBAA is broadcasting the forum on its AM 920 and 101.3 FM stations. David Parrish, professor of visual and performing arts, organized the forum. The College of Liberal Arts, the departments of visual and performing arts, political science, history and foreign languages and literatures, American Studies, Purdue Student Government, the Lafayette Area Peace Coalition, Pax Christi of St. Thomas Aquinas and Lafayette Friends Meeting are sponsoring the forum.
