December 7, 2005 Purdue sports, giveaways highlight Hillenbrand Hall study breakWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue students will get the opportunity for a late-night study break, thanks to an end-of-the-semester party sponsored by University Residences. University Residences will offer a study break for residence hall residents and other Purdue students from 11 p.m. Monday (Dec. 12) to 1 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 13) in the Hillenbrand Dining Court. Students at the study break will be able to eat a variety of breakfast foods, including biscuits and gravy, eggs, pancakes and breakfast sandwiches. In addition to eating in the dining hall, students will have the option of taking the foods to go and eating as they continue to study. In addition, the event will include activities and offer door prizes, including an iPod. Emily Schweikhardt, a Purdue senior in the Department of Foods and Nutrition who is working with dining services as part of an internship, organized the event. She said it was designed to give students the opportunity to have a little fun in the midst of preparing for finals. "Between final exams, papers, presentations and other projects, the end of the semester is the busiest time for many students," Schweikhardt said. "We wanted to be able to give students a way to take a well-deserved break from all of the work they will be doing. It's an opportunity for at least temporary stress relief." Breakfast food was chosen based on conversations with students and the popularity of breakfast items that are sometimes served in the dining courts during dinner, Schweikhardt said. Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics will provide decorations, giveaways and tickets to a host of sporting events as door prizes. Women's basketball coach Kristy Curry and Purdue Pete will also be on hand to meet and talk with students. Kellogg Company, which supplies many of the cereals available in Purdue dining halls, has donated many of the other prizes, including the iPod MP3 player, movie passes and music download certificates.
