November 10, 2005 John Deere to present new tractor for Purdue academic useWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A new John Deere tractor will be presented to Purdue University's colleges of Agriculture, Engineering and Technology at 3 p.m. Friday (Nov. 11) during a ceremony in front of Stewart Center. This is the fourth year John Deere has donated a new tractor. The colleges keep the tractors for one year for students to use in studying applications, technology systems and operations. Each year John Deere takes the old tractor and presents another featuring newer technologies. John Deere's donation for this year will be a model 8530, featuring a new Infinitely Variable Transmission, PowerTech Plus engine and a GreenStar 2 color display that shows critical tractor functions and operates guidance systems. "John Deere benefits from donating tractors as well," said Steven Shelby, associate director of corporate and foundation relations. "They want to hire Purdue students to work for them, and in doing this they get to showcase their technology and incorporate several colleges in the learning process, so students are already familiar with John Deere technologies by graduation time."
