November 1, 2005 Quartet dedicated to performing on the recorder to perform at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Quartet New Generation will incorporate more than 20 different instruments, all in the recorder family, when it performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 3) in Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse. Quartet New Generation was founded in 1998 by four recorder players studying at the University of the Arts in Berlin and made its United States debut in Carnegie Hall Sept. 14, 2004. The group performs a broad spectrum of music, from early music to new works by young composers written specifically for the recorder. Thursday's performance will include recorders similar to the ones many people remember playing during their childhood to futuristic-looking square recorders, which were designed from the engineering of the pipe organ. In all, the performance will include 20 different types of recorders. The quartet's Purdue appearance is part of the Purdue Convocation's classics series. All tickets are $11 and can be purchased at any campus box office or Ticketmaster outlet. Campus box offices can be reached by calling (765) 494-3933.
