September 28, 2005 Arxan Technologies to serve on national software center's industry advisory boardWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Arxan Technologies Inc., a software and hardware anti-tamper technology company, today (Wednesday, 9/28) announced the company has been named to serve on the Software Engineering Research Center's (SERC) industry affiliate advisory board. "SERC welcomes Arxan's expertise and experience in the complex realm of information security," said Wayne M. Zage, SERC director. "Arxan's presence increases SERC's diversity and research project potential." SERC - the only National Science Foundation industry-university cooperative research center devoted to software engineering - was established 20 years ago to be a bridge between academia and industry. Current SERC affiliates include Baker Hill; Eli Lilly and Co.; Intelligent Information Technologies Corp.; Motorola Inc.; NASA IV&V; the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division; the National Energy Technology Laboratory; Northrop Grumman Corp.; Ontario Systems, LLC; Raytheon Co.; and Telcordia Technologies Inc. "SERC provides a terrific venue for Arxan to stay in touch with current research and gives us a forum to both learn from and influence how software security is viewed and measured," said Richard Earley, Arxan's CEO. Prior to becoming an industry affiliate, Arxan collaborated with SERC on Arxan's Nemesis(tm) project. Nemesis(tm), which is a fully automated, self-learning platform that tests the strength of software protection against attacks, such as tampering, reverse engineering and code lifting, is a key component in the company's drive to put quality protection within the reach of average software engineers, rather than restricting it to the much smaller domain of trained security experts. Arxan regularly conducts seminars and workshops at SERC's biannual industry-academic showcase, which focuses on best practices, methodology and latest techniques related to software. "SERC provides a valuable platform for Arxan to pursue its community-service efforts of educating engineers and researchers on the latest attack techniques and protection best practices, thereby ensuring that deployed products are adequately fortified against exploitation and unauthorized use," said Eric Davis, Arxan's Senior Vice President of Solutions. In addition, Arxan conducted a Software Protection Evaluation Course during a SERC-hosted event at Ball State University in April. The event drew more than 40 participants, including representatives from SERC affiliate companies Ontario Systems, Raytheon and Motorola. Rob Wroblewski, Arxan's representative on the SERC industry affiliate advisory board, said, "All the attendees were delighted with the information contained in the course and very impressed with the capabilities of Arxan's security mechanisms."
