Purdue students earn liberal arts scholarships
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – More than 70 students in Purdue University's College of Liberal Arts were recently awarded scholarships.
The scholarships are:
• Aneta Van Sickle Scholarship: The Aneta Van Sickle Scholarship is available to any Purdue student who has studied at least one semester at Purdue, except those who will graduate during the current spring semester. Criteria for the scholarships are merit and the qualities of dedication, caring, patience, style and wisdom.
• Liberal Arts Alumni Board Scholarship: The Liberal Arts Alumni Board Scholarship is available to any Purdue student who will be a junior or senior during the 2005-06 academic year. The scholarship is based on merit and volunteer service to the community or the university.
• Clarence C. Dammon Dean's Scholar: Clarence C. Dammon Dean's Scholar applicants must have either a combined SAT (verbal plus math) of at least 1200, an ACT composite score of at least 26 or have been their class valedictorian or salutatorian.
• Gary/Hammond/East Chicago Scholarship: One merit scholarship per year for a student who graduates from a high school in Gary, Hammond or East Chicago and is admitted to any major in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue's West Lafayette campus. Applicants should be strong academic students active in student and community activities.
• Mihee Yi Memorial Scholarship: The Mihee Yi Memorial Scholarship is available to any Purdue student who has established a one-semester grade point average of at least 2.75. Preference in selection is given to students who participate in one or more student organizations.
With more than 6,000 undergraduate students at Purdue's West Lafayette campus, the College of Liberal Arts is one of Purdue's largest colleges. It encompasses 11 academic departments: communication; English; foreign languages and literatures; health and kinesiology; history; philosophy; political science; psychological sciences; sociology and anthropology; speech, language and hearing sciences; and visual and performing arts. The college also is home to 13 interdisciplinary programs, such as Asian, African-American, religious and women's studies.
