American Studies announces fall lecture series

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's American Studies will begin its fall lecture series, called Globalization, Transnationalism and the Future of American Studies, on Sept. 9.

Programs in the series include:

• Malini Schueller, professor of English at University of Florida, will present "Postcoloniality, American Studies and the Global Rush" 2-4 p.m. Sept. 9 in Stewart Center, Room 314.

• Sonia Saldivar-Hull, professor of English and director of the Women's Studies Institute at University of Texas-San Antonio, will present "Gender, Border Studies and American Studies" 2-4 p.m. Oct. 14 in Stanley Coulter Hall, Room 239.

• Mark Bernstein, the Joyce and Edward Brewer Chair in Applied Ethics at Purdue's Department of Philosophy, will present "Animal Rights, Human Wrongs" 2-4 p.m. Oct. 28 in Beering Hall of Liberal Arts and Education, Room B268.

• Daniel Morris, professor of English in Purdue's Department of English, will present "On Aesthetics and Identity: Marjorie Perloff’s Vienna Paradox" 2-4 p.m. Nov. 11 in Beering Hall of Liberal Arts and Education, Room B268.

The American Studies Program, which is housed in the College of Liberal Arts, offers graduate courses and seminar work in all aspects of American culture, with particular emphasis on the racial, ethnic, gender and regional diversity of the nation. Fifty students are currently pursuing master's and doctorate programs in the program.
