August 19, 2005 Grant writing workshop to demystify grant writing processWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Beginner's Guide to Grant Writing workshop is a two-part distance education training offered from 9:30 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. Oct. 5 and Oct. 25 through Purdue Cooperative Extension Service locations across Indiana. The workshop will help inexperienced writers learn how to write a proposal, as well as help experienced writers improve their proposal writing skills. The workshop uses IP video, which joins experts on campus with onsite facilitators to encourage community collaborations in grant writing, said Aadron Rausch, Purdue Extension specialist. On day one of the workshop, participants should arrive with a project or idea in mind. They will learn a step-by-step process for developing ideas into fundable projects. They will complete a proposal outline that will be expanded into a completed proposal before the next session. On day two of the workshop, participants are placed in the role of reviewer, giving and receiving feedback on proposal strengths and weaknesses. Finding funds and matching proposal ideas to potential funders will also be emphasized. Follow up technical assistance and a weekly funder report provides ongoing support to program participants. "The main goal of this workshop is to foster community and economic development and the quality of life in Indiana communities by giving Indiana leaders the education and skills they need to support their efforts," Rausch said. In the past three years, program participants who have completed the workshop have reported more than $2 million in funded proposals. The workshop will be held in the following areas: Purdue Extension office in Allen County (Fort Wayne) Benton County Extension (Fowler) Brown County Career Resource Center (Nashville) Clinton County Learning Network (Frankfort) Fayette County Whitewater Center (Connersville) Hendricks County College Network (Danville) Jasper County Lifelong Learning (Rensselaer) Martin County Learning Center (Shoals) Pulaski County Learning Network (Winamac) St. Joseph County-Ivy Tech Campus (South Bend) Steuben Community Center (Angola) Tippecanoe County Extension (Lafayette) White County Extension (Reynolds) The registration deadline is Sept. 12.
