National Value-Added Ag Conference June 16-17 in Indy

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -The 7th Annual National Value-Added Ag Conference will be June 16-17 at the Adams Mark Hotel in Indianapolis.

This year's conference, which begins at 8 a.m. on June 16 and ends at noon on June 17, is co-sponsored by Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service New Ventures Team and the Indiana Cooperative Development Center. The conference features nationally recognized experts speaking about topics such as agritourism, community food systems, energy, entrepreneurship and value-added agriculture.

"This year we're broadening our perspectives by featuring nationally recognized speakers in every session," said Jerry Nelson, Purdue Extension's New Ventures educator and co-chair of the conference. "We'll combine this large view with panelists who represent best practices so we can see what's happening across the U.S. and forecast what we can expect to see locally."

The conference utilizes a train-the-trainer approach to bring Extension educators, local economic development officers and small business development center personnel up to date on trends in value-added agriculture. The second day features two tracks that focus on large and small entrepreneurial ventures.
