Purdue Research Park named one of Indiana's top 25 Keepers

June 1, 2005

After asking Hoosiers to name the state's businesses, corporations and organizations whose absence would do Indiana the most harm, Indy Men's Magazine and Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick today released the list of "Indiana's 25 Keepers: Keeping Good Company."

In March, the monthly magazine and weekly business television program issued a statewide call for nominations. After more than 4,000 votes were tallied, Eli Lilly and Company's values, economic commitment to Indiana and its role in the global healthcare economy placed the Indianapolis-based company at the top of the list.

Indy Men's Magazine President Todd Tobias says he wasn't surprised voters selected the pharmaceutical giant to hold the top position.

"Eli Lilly and Company is more than our most important company. In many ways, it's our state's very heart," Tobias said. "To lose Lilly would be like a body losing its most vital organ. In theory, the state could survive, but it would be living the rest of its days on life support."

Other Indiana companies, businesses and organizations named to the list include:

2. Lilly Endowment
3. Indianapolis Motor Speedway
4. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
5. WellPoint

Inside INdiana Business creator and host Gerry Dick says he is impressed with the selections made by voters from across the state.

'These organizations deliver economic, cultural, educational and scientific benefits to our state," Dick said. "They not only represent Indiana's economic diversity, but also are a testament to what we've been, what we are and what we can be."

Released this week, the June issue of Indy Men's Magazine features profiles on all of the 25 Keepers. The free magazine is available at various businesses, supermarkets, restaurants and other central Indiana locations.

"Indiana's 25 Keepers", a special edition of Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, will include a countdown to Indiana's top Keeper and exciting videos profiling why each organization was named to the list. The one-hour television show will air June 10th at 10:00 p.m. on WFYI Channel 20 and June 12th at 11:00 a.m. on WTHR Channel 13 in Indianapolis.
